Problem Guide
Why Am I Hot at Night?
If you're hot at night, your bedding is usually the reason. Here is the science and the fix.
Nocturnal Overheating
Being hot at night is most commonly caused by heat-trapping bedding that prevents the body's natural thermoregulatory cooling process. The body must drop its core temperature by 1–2°C to initiate deep sleep. Standard bedding (cotton, polyester, memory foam) traps the 80W of heat the body generates, preventing this temperature drop and causing overheating.

Why You Get Hot at Night
If you're asking "why am I hot at night?", the answer is usually one of four causes:
1. Heat-trapping bedding (most common): Standard cotton, polyester, and memory foam bedding trap the 80W of heat your body generates during sleep. The thermal microclimate between body and bedding can be 4–6°C warmer than room air; even with AC running.
2. Hormonal changes: Menopause (oestrogen withdrawal narrows the thermoneutral zone), pregnancy (progesterone raises basal temperature), and thyroid disorders can all cause nocturnal overheating.
3. High metabolic rate: Athletes and people with higher muscle mass generate more body heat during sleep, requiring better-performing bedding to dissipate it.
4. UAE climate: In hot, humid conditions, the ambient environment provides no cooling assistance. Standard bedding designed for temperate climates cannot manage the thermal load.
The majority of non-medical nighttime overheating is caused by #1; heat-trapping bedding, and is directly fixable with cooling bedding.

The Bedding Microclimate Problem
The key to understanding why you're hot at night is the concept of the "thermal microclimate"; the temperature between your body and your bedding.
Even if your room is cool (AC at 20°C), the microclimate between your body and standard bedding can be 24–26°C. This is because standard bedding materials are thermal insulators:
• Cotton (Q-Max 0.10–0.15): Minimal heat transfer, traps body heat • Polyester (Q-Max 0.12–0.18): No breathability, traps all heat • Memory foam: Dense, low-conductivity, traps heat (surface 3–4°C above ambient) • Down: Nature's insulator, designed to trap heat
AC cools the room air but cannot address the trapped microclimate. You need bedding that actively transfers heat away from the skin surface; which is what phase-change cooling fabrics (CoolTouch® Q-Max 0.38) are designed to do.

How to Stop Being Hot at Night
To stop being hot at night, replace heat-trapping bedding with a complete cooling system:
1. CoolTouch® Performance Comforter (from AED 589): Phase-change fabric (Q-Max 0.38) actively absorbs body heat, maintaining the surface 4.2°C below standard bedding.
2. CoolCloud® Pillow (AED 280): CoolTouch® fabric for head/neck cooling. No more flipping the pillow.
3. TENCEL™ Lyocell sheets: 50% more breathable than cotton, 50% faster moisture management.
4. Set AC to 19–21°C: The bedding manages the skin microclimate; AC manages ambient.
Clinical testing showed 27 minutes faster sleep onset, 41% fewer wake events, and 32% more deep sleep with this system. If you've been hot at night, this is the most direct, evidence-based fix.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why am I hot at night?
The most common cause is heat-trapping bedding. Standard cotton, polyester, and memory foam trap the 80W of heat your body generates during sleep, creating a microclimate 4–6°C warmer than room air. This prevents the core temperature drop needed for deep sleep. Switch to cooling bedding with phase-change fabric (CoolTouch®, Q-Max 0.38).
Why am I hot at night even with AC?
AC cools room air but not the thermal microclimate between body and bedding, which can be 4–6°C warmer than room air. You need active cooling bedding (CoolTouch®) to manage the skin-surface temperature that AC cannot reach.
Why am I so hot at night in the UAE?
UAE heat and humidity prevent effective evaporative cooling, and standard bedding imported from temperate climates cannot manage the thermal load. Buildings also retain daytime heat. Cooling bedding with phase-change fabric (CoolTouch® Q-Max 0.38) provides active heat absorption that works regardless of ambient conditions.
How do I stop being hot at night?
Replace heat-trapping bedding with cooling bedding: CoolTouch® Performance Comforter (Q-Max 0.38), CoolCloud® Pillow, and TENCEL™ Lyocell sheets. Set AC to 19–21°C. This system provides 27 minutes faster sleep onset and 32% more deep sleep versus standard bedding.
